FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS

1. What are your fees?

Practically all of our cases are done on a contingency basis which means we only get paid from the proceeds of the recovery.  This is a percentage of the recovery that generally varies from 30% to 40%, depending on the facts and circumstances of the case.

2.  Are there any additional costs?

Litigation can be very expensive with costs of court reporters for depositions, private investigators, and expert witnesses such as doctors, engineers, economists, rehabilitationists and others.  We may advance these costs for you if you are unable to afford them.  We have advanced many costs on cases and will continue to do so in order to obtain justice.  You are kept fully informed on all costs throughout the case.

3.  When and where can we meet?

We have handled cases throughout Pennsylvania and, especially, in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.  We have offices in Havertown, Pennsylvania.  We can make convenient arrangements to come to your home or a local office near your home.

4.  Do you work with other law firms?

Samuel J. Lassoff can be hired or associated on cases by lawyers as (1) a consultant (2) associate counsel, or (3) simply referred the case.  Samuel Lassoff accepts referrals and will consult and associate on case referrals from other lawyers.   He is associated with a team of trial consulting professionals that have developed new cutting edge state-of-the art case preparation methods to develop powerful presentations.

5.  What are your primary areas of personal injury practice?

Serious Injuries, including Wrongful Death; Automobile; Medical Malpractice and Product Liability.  Cases accepted are carefully selected so each can be given the personal attention required to attain justice.  If there is no recovery, there is no fee.

6.  What if I cannot afford your services?

There is never a fee for a consultation.  If, after consultation and a review of the facts it is decided to proceed with your case, there will be no charge for expenses or services rendered until the case is concluded.

7.  Who will be handling my case?

Your case will always be handled by a lawyer who is assisted by a staff of highly experienced paralegals.  Your lawyer will handle your case throughout the entire legal proceeding.  If necessary, a team of lawyers will prepare and try your case.  A paralegal will assist the lawyers in the accumulation of information and documentation.

8.  What if my injury occurred in Pennsylvania but I live out of state?

As long as the injury occurred in Pennsylvania, it makes no difference where you presently live.  A claim can be brought in the state where the harm occurred, regardless of your residence.

9.  What if I live in Pennsylvania and my injury occurs out-of-state?

We have handled many out-of-state cases.  We have been admitted in other states for the purpose of litigating a case in that jurisdiction and we have a network of lawyers that we work with us in those states.  If we cannot personally handle the case for you, we will find an experienced lawyer for you.

10.  What types of cases do you handle?

Whenever and however our clients have been injured, we will be there to protect them.  Our areas of practice can be generally summarized as follows:

Auto, motorcycle, truck, bus, and railroad accidents

Medical malpractice (including prescription drug errors, hospital negligence,
birth, brain or spinal cord injuries) and wrongful death

Nursing home malpractice and HMO malpractice

Workplace, construction, machine and industrial accidents

      Unsafe products and toxic injuries

      Injuries from defective property

11.  What is my case worth?

Before an accurate determination as to the value of a case can be made, it is necessary to review all available information about your case, including medical records, police reports, lost wages, and the injured's medical progress.  Your case may also warrant compensation for potential future impairment, lost wages, ongoing treatment, and pain and suffering.  Although every case is different, a lawyer may be able to analyze your case based on prior similar injuries and circumstances of past cases.  Any lawyer who states that your case is worth a certain dollar amount without adequately investigating your claim is performing a disservice to you.  It is important that a lawyer be contacted within a reasonable time after an accident so valuable information is not lost.

12.  Do I have a case?

In order for us to determine whether or not you have a case, it is necessary for us to obtain some information about your accident.  Please provide us with the basic information needed to decide whether you have a case or not.  Your information will be reviewed by one of our lawyers, and a reply will be sent to you within the next business day by phone or e-mail.  Another option is to contact our office locally at 215-545-4450 to discuss your case.  It does not cost you a thing to contact our office, and our lawyers will never charge you a fee to review your case.

 13.  What kinds of cases do you handle?

We place an emphasis on representing individuals who have been injured as a result of someone else's negligence and need help protecting their rights.  While our lawyers have the experience and knowledge to handle many types cases, our lawyers specialize in cases involving personal injury and medical malpractice.  If you or a loved one has been injured in an automobile accident, by a defective product, or in the workplace, call our office today at 215-545-4450.  If, for some reason we are unable to help you with your matter, we may know someone who can.

14.  My insurance company told me that hiring a lawyer is not necessary.  Should I handle the case myself?

If your claim involves only minor personal property loss, chances are you may not need a lawyer to help resolve the issue.  However, if your matter involves a serious injury, mounting doctor bills, on-going treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering, you should contact an experienced personal injury lawyer.

Insurance companies tell you that hiring an attorney is not necessary and will assure you that you will receive a fair settlement, regardless of the claim.  However, personal injury cases typically involve individuals who represent your insurance adjuster along with lawyers hired by the insurance company to serve the best interest of the insurance company, not your best interests.  These individuals seek to minimize the insurance companies' losses by aggressively defending claims and offering a "quick settlement", with hopes of paying you less than what you are entitled to.  Who is going to protect your rights and serve your best interests?

Unless you are experienced in negotiating with insurance companies, possess the knowledge to understand complex insurance issues, and have access to all of the information necessary in order to make an informed decision about whether or not a settlement is fair or not, you should contact an experienced personal injury lawyer.  Our attorneys work for you and not the insurance company.  We will review your case with you at no cost, then you can decide whether or not you need an attorney -- without your insurance company deciding for you.  What do you have to lose?
